Neurofeedback
ILF and Micro Current neurofeedback that calms the nervous system and improves neuro-regulation as a complement to therapy.
Neurofeedback is a gentle, non-invasive way of training the brain, offered in person at our Bountiful office. Small sensors placed on your scalp read your brain's electrical activity, and the system offers real-time feedback that encourages calmer, more balanced patterns — nothing is sent into the brain. It doesn't heal or cure illness — rather, it helps calm the nervous system and improve neuro-regulation, often alongside talk therapy, EMDR, or ART.
What Neurofeedback Is
Neurofeedback works by placing small sensors on your scalp that read your brain's electrical activity — nothing is sent into the brain, and nothing is done to you in an invasive way. The sensors simply pick up information, and a computer system reflects that activity back to you through gentle, real-time feedback, often through sound or something you watch or listen to.
Over a series of sessions, this feedback loop encourages your brain to notice and shift toward steadier, healthier patterns on its own. It's best understood as training rather than a treatment done to you — your brain does the work, and the process simply gives it clearer information to work with.
Neurofeedback isn't meant to replace talk therapy. Many people find it works well as a complement to the therapeutic work they're already doing — whether that's traditional talk therapy, EMDR, or ART — supporting the nervous system so that other therapeutic work can take hold more easily.
Training, Not a Cure
It's important to understand what neurofeedback is not. It does not heal or cure illness, and it isn't a quick fix or a stand-alone solution — we want you to have accurate expectations from the start, and we won't promise outcomes we can't guarantee.
What neurofeedback does is help calm an overactive or dysregulated nervous system and improve your brain's capacity for neuro-regulation — its own ability to settle, focus, and respond to stress in healthier ways. The goal is to support your brain's natural regulatory capacity, not to override it or force a particular result.
We see neurofeedback as one part of a broader picture of care, not a replacement for the relationship and insight that talk therapy provides. When your nervous system is calmer and better regulated, the rest of your therapeutic work often has more room to take hold.
Two Approaches: ILF and Micro Current
We offer two types of neurofeedback, and which one is right for you depends on what you're working through. ILF, or Infralow Frequency neurofeedback, is often a good fit for calming a hot or overactivated nervous system — the kind of dysregulation common with trauma, anxiety, and sleep difficulties. It works with slow, very low frequency brain activity, gently encouraging the nervous system toward a steadier baseline.
Micro Current Neurofeedback, also known as LENS, uses tiny, imperceptible signals designed to help interrupt patterns that feel stuck or looping — the kind of repetitive thought or reactivity that can feel hard to shift through conversation alone. Both approaches are gentle and non-invasive, and we'll talk with you about which one — or which combination — makes sense for your situation, adjusting as we learn how your nervous system responds.
What Neurofeedback May Support
Because neurofeedback works with the nervous system broadly rather than targeting a single diagnosis, it may support a range of concerns. We're careful not to overstate what it can do — results vary, and neurofeedback works alongside your broader care rather than in place of it.
- Depression, anxiety, and mood swings
- PTSD, complex PTSD, and other trauma responses
- ADHD and attention difficulties
- Autism spectrum concerns and sensory sensitivities
- TBI, stroke recovery, and post-concussion symptoms
- Sleep difficulties and chronic stress
What a Session Feels Like
A neurofeedback session is calm and comfortable — most people describe it as restful. You'll sit in a quiet space with sensors placed on your scalp, and there's nothing you need to actively do, no effort or performance required on your part.
You might rest, watch something, or listen quietly while the system reads your brain activity and offers feedback in the background. The process is painless, and many people find it genuinely relaxing rather than effortful — a chance to simply be still while your nervous system takes in the feedback.
“When your nervous system is calmer and better regulated, the rest of your therapeutic work often has more room to take hold.”
Results Build Over Time
Neurofeedback works cumulatively. A single session isn't intended to produce lasting change on its own — instead, each session builds on the last as your nervous system has repeated opportunities to practice steadier patterns, gradually making those patterns more familiar and accessible.
Because of this, we think about neurofeedback as a series rather than a one-time appointment. We'll check in with you along the way about how things are shifting and adjust our approach as needed, staying hedged about pace and outcome since every nervous system responds differently.
A Complement to Your Care
Neurofeedback is offered in person at our Bountiful office, since the equipment requires hands-on sensor placement. It pairs naturally with the therapy work you may already be doing with us, whether in person in Bountiful or via telehealth across Utah and Idaho, giving your care more than one avenue toward steadier ground.
If you're curious whether neurofeedback might be a good fit for what you're working through, we offer a free 15-minute consultation to talk it over — no pressure, just a conversation about your options, your questions, and whether ILF, Micro Current, or a combination makes the most sense for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about neurofeedback at Rising Minds.
Is neurofeedback safe?
Neurofeedback is gentle and non-invasive. Sensors simply read your brain's activity and the system provides feedback that encourages healthier patterns — nothing is sent into your brain. It doesn't heal or cure illness; it helps the nervous system regulate itself more smoothly.
Does neurofeedback hurt or feel like anything?
No. Most people find sessions calm and even relaxing. You simply sit comfortably while sensors read your activity — there's nothing you have to do, and the training happens on its own.
How many sessions will I need?
Neurofeedback works cumulatively, so results build across a series of sessions rather than all at once. The right number varies from person to person, and your provider will talk through a realistic plan and track how you're responding.
Can I do neurofeedback alongside talk therapy?
Yes — for many people that's where it's most powerful. Calming the nervous system can make the deeper work of EMDR, ART, or talk therapy easier to take hold.
