What We Treat
ADHD
ADHD support in Bountiful, UT — attention, focus, and regulation challenges addressed with therapy and neurofeedback.
ADHD is poorly named. It is not a shortage of attention — people with ADHD can focus intensely on things that genuinely engage them. It is a difficulty regulating where attention goes and how long it stays there, and that difficulty extends well beyond focus into emotion, impulse, and time.
Common Signs & Symptoms
- Difficulty focusing
- Impulsivity
- Restlessness
- Disorganization
- Trouble with follow-through
A regulation difficulty, not a motivation problem
The brain systems involved in ADHD handle executive function: starting tasks, sustaining effort, holding information in mind while using it, switching between activities, and inhibiting an impulse long enough to consider it. When those systems run inconsistently, the result looks like carelessness or not trying — from the outside.
From the inside it is usually the opposite: enormous effort producing unreliable results. This gap is why so many people with ADHD arrive in therapy carrying years of accumulated shame, having been told since childhood that they simply need to apply themselves.
How it changes across the lifespan
In children, ADHD is often most visible as physical restlessness, interrupting, difficulty waiting, and trouble following multi-step instructions. Because it disrupts the classroom, it tends to get identified early — particularly in boys.
In teenagers the hyperactivity often turns inward, becoming mental restlessness rather than physical. Demands rise sharply just as the structure of earlier grades falls away, so many teens who coped adequately start struggling around this point. In adults, it usually presents as chronic disorganization, difficulty with deadlines and follow-through, emotional reactivity, and a long history of underperforming relative to ability. Many adults — especially women, whose inattentive presentation is quieter and more easily missed — are not identified until their own child is assessed.
The parts people don't expect
- Emotional dysregulation — reactions that arrive fast and large, then pass quickly
- Time blindness — genuine difficulty sensing how long things take or how much has passed
- Task paralysis — knowing exactly what to do and being unable to begin
- Hyperfocus — losing hours in something absorbing, unable to disengage
- Rejection sensitivity — criticism landing far harder than the situation warrants
- Sleep difficulty — a mind that becomes most active at bedtime
How we support it
Several of our providers specialize in ADHD. Work usually combines practical executive-function strategies built around how your brain actually operates — rather than the systems that work for everyone else — with therapy addressing the self-esteem damage that years of falling short tends to leave behind.
We also offer ILF and Micro Current neurofeedback, which trains the brain toward steadier regulation over time and is frequently used alongside therapy here. We do not diagnose ADHD or prescribe stimulant medication, but we work alongside the prescribing providers who do. Support is available in person in Bountiful and by telehealth across Utah and Idaho.
Common Questions
Do you diagnose ADHD?
No. We don't provide ADHD diagnostic evaluations or prescribe stimulant medication. We do provide therapy, executive-function support, and neurofeedback for people with ADHD, and we work alongside the providers who diagnose and prescribe.
Can adults have ADHD if it wasn't caught in childhood?
Yes, and it's common. Inattentive presentations are quieter and get missed far more often, particularly in girls. Many adults aren't identified until their own child is assessed and the description sounds familiar.
Does neurofeedback help with ADHD?
Neurofeedback trains the brain toward steadier self-regulation over time, and many of our clients use it alongside therapy for focus and impulse control. It isn't a cure and results vary between individuals — we'll talk honestly about what to expect for your situation.
My child has ADHD. Do you work with kids?
Yes. Several of our providers specialize in children and teens, and we offer both therapy and neurofeedback for younger clients. Parent guidance is usually part of the work.
